Louisiana OMV Implements New Interpreting Service at Field Offices

The Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles (OMV) and LanguageLine Solutions have partnered to offer a free, on-demand, language interpretation service to non-English and limited English speaking customers. LanguageLine phone interpreting services quickly connects OMV visitors with a highly trained interpreter within seconds. Interpretation services are available in over 240 languages at all OMV field offices.
“This is a vital service that empowers our guests and allows our agency to continue providing the highest level of customer service in an innovative fashion,” stated OMV Commissioner Karen St. Germain. “This new, exciting service is fast, reliable and secure.”
Visitors can verbally notify the OMV employee of their preferred language, or select it on the provided language ID card. Louisiana OMV employees will then connect the guest to an interpreter via a dual handset phone. During the call, the interpreter will assist the customer to ensure clear, concise and effective communication between all parties while OMV employees process their requested motor vehicle service.

. LanguageLine services are not available to customers who visit an OMV field office for testing purposes. If a testing applicant does not have a good understanding of the written English language, they may bring a translator to assist with any class knowledge test, excluding CDL.
Four OMV Locations to Remain Closed Until Further Notice
Due to the impacts from Hurricane Ida, the following Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles locations will be closed until further notice: Golden Meadow, Harvey, Kenner and Reserve.
Louisiana OMV Updates Safety Protocols Amid COVID-19 Surge
To help stop the spread of COVID-19, facial coverings will be required inside all Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles locations beginning Monday, July 26, 2021. The updated safety protocols follow the increasing COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations throughout Louisiana and reflect the latest guidelines from state health officials. If a customer does not have a mask, one will be provided.
“Public safety is our priority. We must take the necessary precautions to protect the health of our customers and employees,” OMV Commissioner Karen St. Germain stated. In addition to wearing masks, visitors are reminded to follow social distancing guidelines and stay at least six feet from other people while inside OMV field offices.
The Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles is reminding customers to utilize the free LA Wallet app when possible. LA Wallet allows eligible customers to request a duplicate driver’s license and renew their current driver’s license. Additionally, customers are encouraged to check www.expresslane.org to find out if they can complete their transaction online before visiting an OMV field office.
The Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles continues to work closely with state officials to provide a safe environment for all visitors. The agency appreciates the public’s cooperation and understanding at this time.

“Several Louisiana OMV locations have experienced intermittent closures over the past few months due to precautions related to COVID-19. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. When possible, we shift resources around to where they are needed in an effort to keep our offices open. Unfortunately, sometimes we are forced to close temporarily to protect the health of our customers and employees.
"The fourth surge of COVID-19 is upon us. We cannot let our guard down. Though they are not required at this time, we encourage OMV customers to wear masks for their protection. We continue to enforce social distancing protocols at OMV field offices and we ask that customers stay home when they are sick. All Louisiana OMV locations will close at noon on Friday, June 18, 2021, in observance of the Juneteenth Holiday. Customers who have appointments scheduled during the closure must reschedule online at www.expresslane.org

Wednesday, June 16, 2021, Gov. John Bel Edwards announced that in honor of Juneteenth becoming a legal holiday in the State of Louisiana, on Friday, June 18, 2021, all state offices will be closed for a half-day. Gov. Edwards signed HB 554
(Act 128) by Baton Rouge Rep. Larry Selders enacting the Juneteenth celebration into law and making it a permanent state holiday.
Juneteenth is a day celebrating June 19, 1865, when Major General Gordon Granger led Union soldiers into Galveston, Texas bringing the news that the Civil War had ended and the Emancipation Proclamation declared all those enslaved they had been freed nearly two and a half years earlier.
Louisiana OMV Alerts Customers of Phishing Scam
The Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles (OMV) is alerting residents of a text message phishing scam that has the potential to steal personal information. Louisiana residents have received text messages from scammers posing as the OMV. The messages originate from unfamiliar phone numbers and claim the recipient can collect a sum of money by clicking a link. The OMV recommends customers ignore and delete such messages.
The Louisiana OMV does not ask customers to provide sensitive personal data through text messages. Customers are encouraged to utilize the Louisiana State Police online system to report suspicious or criminal activity. The Louisiana OMV offers the following tips to help customers avoid scams:
- DO exercise caution with all communications you receive from anonymous sources.
- DO confirm the message was generated from a legitimate source.
- DO keep an eye out for signs of phishing (rewards, vague URLs, incorrect grammar).
- DO NOT click on links in an unsolicited message from an unverified source.
- DO NOT send your personal information via text.
- DO NOT post sensitive information online.

EXPRESSLANE.org Wins Multiple International Creative Awards

, is the winner of two prestigious international creative awards. Expresslane.org
earned gold in the 2021 Hermes Creative Awards and silver in the 2021 MUSE Creative Awards.
The OMV worked with NIC Louisiana to redesign Expresslane.org
in January 2021. The remodeled website further simplifies interactions with state government and enhances the overall citizen experience. Since relaunching, the website has set new monthly records for users in both January and March. “This is evidence of the hard work that went into this project and it speaks volumes to the commitment we have in providing our customers with a convenient online experience,” stated OMV Commissioner Karen St. Germain.

REAL ID Deadline Extended
⭐️REAL ID Deadline Extended to May 3, 2023⭐️
❗️Due to circumstances resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has extended the REAL ID full enforcement deadline from October 1, 2021, to May 3, 2023.
🗓Beginning May 3, 2023, every air traveler 18 years of age and older will need a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license or identification card, state-issued enhanced driver’s license, or another TSA-acceptable form of identification at airport security checkpoints for domestic air travel.
OMV Extends Call Center Hours for Reinstatement Services
Due to a recent increase in call volume, Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles (OMV) customers seeking driver's license reinstatement services can now contact the OMV Call Center until 6:30 pm on weeknights. Reinstatement services through the OMV Call Center are now available by phone Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 6:30 pm by dialing (225) 925-6146. Call center agents are only available to assist customers with reinstatement services (Option 3) during the extended hours from 4:00 pm to 6:30 pm.
OMV Alerts CDL/CLP Customers to Verify Medical Certificates
The Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles (OMV) is alerting commercial driver’s license (CDL) and commercial learner’s permit (CLP) customers to verify their medical certification status. CDL and CLP customers can confirm their medical status at www.expresslane.org.
Commercial drivers must have a current medical certification or variance in their possession at all times while operating a commercial motor vehicle.
Customers can submit their medical examiner certificate to the Office of Motor Vehicles in the following ways:

Customers who recently received a letter from OMV with a notice date of February 23, 2021, or February 24, 2021, will not be marked “not medically certified” or “canceled” as stated in the letter. Those CDL and CLP customers will receive a new notice from OMV in the mail with updated deadlines and additional information. The Office of Motor Vehicles will notify customers 30 days prior to canceling their CDL status.
OMV Warns Customers of Imposter Motor Vehicle Websites
The Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles (OMV) is warning citizens of third-party websites obtaining residents’ personal data and credit card information in addition to overcharging citizens for online vehicle registration services. These websites are privately owned by for-profit companies and are not affiliated with any state government agency.
“We have had reports from our citizens who were deceived into providing sensitive information to other websites,” said OMV Commissioner Karen St. Germain. “We encourage our customers to utilize our online services when they can, but they should be aware of the dangers associated with some third-party websites.”
Customers are encouraged to utilize the Louisiana State Police online system to report imposter websites. The secure reporting form is located under the “Suspicious Activity” link at www.lsp.org
Most customers are eligible to perform an online registration renewal at www.expresslane.org
by using the Louisiana computer-generated renewal notice or their previously issued registration. In addition to renewing online, Louisiana residents have the option to renew their vehicle registration by mail or in-person at a local OMV field office or select Public Tag Agent locations.
