OMV customers urged to utilize online services during the COVID-19 pandemic

In an effort to limit exposure and reduce the spread of COVID-19, the Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles (OMV) is urging its customers to utilize available online services before booking an appointment at an OMV field office. The following online services are accessible 24 hours a day, seven days a week at expresslane.org:

Vehicle Registration Renewal
Duplicate Registration Request
Duplicate DL/ID Request
Official Driving Record Request
DL/ID Renewals
Immobilization Inquiries
REAL ID Checklist
Reinstatement and Payment Plan Information

Customers who visit an OMV location should be aware that masks are mandatory. Similarly, social distancing is strongly encouraged for all customers. OMV offices will be complying with the capacity requirements associated with Phase Three of Louisiana Re-opening.

SCAM ALERT

The Office of Motor Vehicles (OMV) is warning Louisiana residents about fraudulent text messages claiming to be from the “DMV.” Louisiana citizens are reporting they have received texts telling drivers they can receive money back from the “DMV” for "having a good record." Citizens should NOT click the link. The message has the potential to steal data or other personal information to commit identity theft or install malware onto the user’s device.

Anyone who receives a message like this should delete it right away. The Louisiana OMV will never ask customers to send sensitive personal information through text messages.

DO:

Exercise caution with all communications you receive.
Confirm the message was generated from a legitimate source.
Keep an eye out for signs of phishing (fraudulent emails/texts).

DON’T:

Click on links in an unsolicited message from an unverified source.
Send your personal information via text.
Post sensitive information online.
